Leukoaraiosis by Region
In our laboratory and that of our close collaborators (David Libon, Ph.D., Tania Giovannetti, Ph.D., Melissa Lamar, Ph.D), we are very interested in leukoaraiosis (LA) or white matter abnormalities and their role on dementia presentation. We have recently finished imaging and cognitive analyses on a large set individuals with dementia. The above image was created by Jared Tanner (advanced graduate student in our laboratory) and Stephen Towler (graduate student in our program) and shows LA by three primary regions of interest (infracortical, periventricular, and deep). We are presenting data on this topic at the International Neuropsychological Society (Boston, February, 2011) with associated papers in submission.
